KEWANEE - Jeanne M. Anderson, 95, of Kewanee, died at 11:15 PM, Saturday, February 16, 2013 at her home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, February 19 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Celebrant will be Rev. Anthony Bernas. There will be no visitation. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or to OSF Hospice. Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee is in charge of arrangements.
She was born August 20, 1917 in Kewanee, the daughter of Clarence B. and Loretta Lucille (Waldorf) Smith. She married Oscar R. Anderson on September 29, 1940 in Kewanee and he preceded her in death on July 29, 1996. Survivors include nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents and three sisters, Vivian Davis, Dorothy Bridgewater and Donna Kubiak.
Jeanne graduated from Kewanee High School in 1936. Along with her husband they owned and operated Anderson’s Grocery on West Prospect St. from 1940-56. She had also worked as a bookkeeper for H&H Oliver. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and her hobbies included collecting chickens. She was commonly known by everyone as “Aunt Jeanne.”
