Darlene I. Holevoet

GALVA - Darlene I. Holevoet, 92, of Galva, died at 1:05 PM, Saturday, February 23, 2013 in the emergency room at Hammond-Henry Hospital in Geneseo.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, March 2 at Rux Funeral Home in Galva. Rev. Linda Winkelman will officiate. Visitation will be held from 5:00-8:00 PM, Friday, March 1 at the funeral home. Burial will be held in Galva Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Messiah Lutheran Church or to the VASA Lodge.

She was born October 9, 1920 in Burns Twp., Henry County, IL, the daughter of John B. and Elsie (Martin) Bengston. She married Emiel Martin Holevoet on April 15, 1939 in Kewanee and he preceded her in death on November 3, 1959. Survivors include two sons, John (Cheryl) Holevoet of Galva and Donald (Elaine) Holevoet of New Haven, CT, three brothers, Bernie Bengston of Florida, William Bengston of Janesville, WI and Gene (Helen) Bengston of Crystal Lake, IL, three sisters, June (Dwayne) Negley, JoAnn Fargher and Roberta Winter, all of Kewanee, five grandchildren, Pam (Carl) Bates, Paula (Keith) Patty, Leigh Boorn, Richard (Jennifer) Holevoet and Daniel (Sarah) Holevoet, seven great grandchildren, Tara (Ben) DeWolfe, Tyler Bates, Heather (Brett) Sellers, Jake (Ann) Patty, Brynn Patty, Cassie Boorn and Lily Holevoet and four great-great grandchildren, Ava and Griffin DeWolfe, Jessa Patty and Aiden Boorn. She was also preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Gary, Hayden and Bob, four sisters, Betty, Lois and two in infancy, a granddaughter, Jennifer Joy Holevoet and a great granddaughter, Dena Patty.

Darlene graduated from Kewanee High School in 1937. She worked as office manager at Dr. Dickinson’s office for 40 years and then had worked at the Galva Historical Museum and at Kids First. She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church and WEICA at the church. She was a charter member of the VASA Lodge and a member of St. John’s Catholic Church Altar and Rosary Society. She enjoyed bowling and was also a member of the Bowling Hall of Fame and was a member of the State Championship Team in 1980 and she also enjoyed playing cards and played in several groups.
